Proposal Editor


Akima, a wholly owned subsidiary of Akima LLC , is seeking an experienced Proposal Editor that will collaborate with teams on a variety of proposal-related documents to edit materials, improve their quality, and ensure they are editorially correct without altering their technical accuracy or meaning. The candidate will review content developed by SMEs for compliance to RFP requirements, provide consistency to proposal content across all volumes to include past performance, resumes, management, and technical. They will lead revisions, such as changing words and rearranging sentences and paragraphs to improve clarity. The candidate will review proposal content for errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling and check the proposal for readability, style, and agreement with editorial policy. The ideal candidate will provide proofreading skills, and possess a keen attention to detail. The candidate will also demonstrate dependability and exceptional customer service skills.


  • Proofreads, edits, and corrects proposal text for style and correctness in meeting proposal style guide specifications.

  • Edit proposal narratives, correcting grammar, passive voice, and consistency to support ease of readability.

  • Ensure all texts conforms for message & voice.

  • Ensure all text is grammatically correct & responsive to proposal requirements.

  • Create and maintain all proposal style guides for use by all proposal staff and authors.

  • Coordinate editorial schedule with proposal management staff while communicating needs and deadlines.

  • Assist in the development, maintenance, production and submittal of proposals and related documents.

  • Research and understand relevant information from SMEs for use in proposal writing to address customer hot buttons, features and benefits of proposed solution, and incorporating win themes into proposal sections.

  • May edit multiple proposals in the same timeframe.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

  • Office environment. Some travel (10%) may be required.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Minimum of 5 years proven successful experience editing, writing, and coordinating Federal Government proposals of moderate to high complexity.

  • Offer practical solutions for improving the quality of the text and ensuring that information is engaging and conveyed with technical accuracy and clarity.

  • Strong command of English grammar, usage, punctuation, and excellent writing skills.

  • Proven performance of editorial functions including proofreading and editing skills.

  • Experience working with proposal teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborate with proposal teams to translate complex information into plain language that is appropriate for the intended audience.

  • Discuss and explain reasons for edits to technical writers.

  • Able to balance multiple projects and work to meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge of GPO, AP, and Chicago style guides.

  • Ability to operate efficiently in a Windows platform with advanced computer skills. including MS Word (a solid knowledge of shortcuts/quick key strokes is preferred), MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, and Adobe Professional.

  • Desired Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
